Floor Joists
Floor joists are part of any build – be it a timber frame construction or a traditional masonry one. If you know the joist type you require, we can provide a quotation based on your specifications. But making the right choice is paramount, so our floor joist design team is always on hand to spend dedicated time with you to determine what is needed for your exact project and budget. They take you through the different options, from modern, engineered open web joist floor systems to traditional solid timber floor joists.
As with all of our projects, we can provide everything you need, starting with a pre-design site survey where necessary. This will ensure smooth design, supply and floor joist installation. The result? Shortened build times.

Open Web Joists
Often used for flat roofs on both residential and commercial builds, open web joists are also a great option for the upper floors of houses, as the system reduces vibration and noise. The space provided in between the floor joists is also perfect for housing cabling, plumbing, heating and ventilation. Made-to-measure off site, these lightweight timber and metal structures are quick and easy to install with practically no need for alterations – reducing time and cost.
I-Joists
Another cost-effective and lightweight option, I-Joists get their name from their shape. Their design virtually eliminates shrinkage and squeaky floors – and, as they are quick and easy to install, they are a great solution for timber frame constructions with limited timeframes.
Solid Timber Joists
The vast majority of timber frame builds now use the more modern open web joists or I-Joists, due their many benefits. However, solid timber joist systems still have their place. Here at UK Structures, our timber structure specialists are trained to design, supply and install this more traditional solution.
